While it is so so cold and hoary white outside I thought it might be nice to have a thread where we can just have some really cheery flowers like JRo's Dahila to brighten up the days. Flowers always make me happy One of my peony's ;D

Lovely idea- will get us all in the mood for after this 'orrible weather! I want to try & grow some black eyed susys up me trellis And can't wait for my ivy leaved toadflax - which has transplanted really well (along with me!) Also love Japanese Anemones (did I ever mention that?!) And just want my crocus & daffs & especially anemone blanda to prove that what I've planted here will continue! Mommyeverhopefuldoosxxxxx

Ooooh...very purty! The Return of the Pink Dahlia - two for the price of one! Which reminds me, last Friday TWO men delivered my Tesco shop! I blurted out 'Oh, I didn't know you lot came as BOGOFs!' but they, neither of them, were amused! Well, I thought it was funny.

I think that's very funny, Jro, I must remember that one for an appropriate occassion. Now, where are my sunglasses? Just can't cope with that blinking pink dahlia

That's not the point, it's lovely and colourful and summery. It's a clematis heracleifolia, Hilly. It's called 'Wyevale'. I should take some cuttings this summer, it's growing where I want to put something else. Rosa 'Aloha'.

Juliet - LOOK ON THE POSITIVE SIDE! You don't have to smell them! I know just what you need. I buy presents for my best friend from this lot, I can't think why I didn't put them on your xmas sorry, christmas online shopping list. www.bloom.uk.com/They are incredibly lifelike, but not cheap. I used to buy her an expensive real bouquet every year, which she wanted, but then she said that she can't gather up flowers for arrangements any more so I try to buy her something small and different for each season so that she can ring the changes. This year I bought her a vase of snowdrops. I didn't see them but she said that you would never know that they weren't real. They are no longer in the catalogue unfortunately, but look through this lot and you can see how good they are. No smell whatsoever!

Artificial flowers have really changed in recent years, haven't they? - they used to look so horribly fake. Lakeland do some lovely ones too. I like my flowers in the garden though, rather than in a vase - so I was really thinking the white sweet peas are probably too smelly for me to grow, not just to have in the house.

There were loads of acid yellow ones in my garden when I moved here, I went round pulling them all up and giving them to my neighbours. The occasional seedling still pops up, but I can cope with them in small quantities. Where I now have a tasteful, calming border of silver foliage and mostly white flowers by my front door, there used to be a bank of acid yellow dahlias backed by shocking pink cosmos fronted by scarlet salvias, orange marigolds and bright blue lobelias, interspersed with the odd pink and purple and red and white fuchsia. As you got out of the car to go to the front door you reached for your sunglasses.

I don't mind them as cut flowers in a posy of other colours, but they are a bit too much for me en mass in a garden.
