Dunno. OMG OMG I'm rich, I'm rich! Someone has bid on one of my books! 99p. I think I paid, um, a quid for it, so that means I've made...<Aspi tries very hard to be mathematicacal > um, -1p. ;D Oh who cares, it keeps me off the streets. ; D

;D When does the listing finish?
And why haven't you put in a minimum of, say, £1.99? Are you gambling, or would it cost you more to put in a minimum price at the moment?

I thought it might be good to have a couple of titles on at 99p. The listing doesn't end for ages yet - next Wednesday I think for some and later for others. Still time for me to become a pillionaire (that's a penny millionaire ;D and I just made up that word btw ;D).

Just noticed a fascinating feature of ebay, that you can see what else your buyer has purchased. ;D Interesting. I have no idea why the 99p book buyer is buying the book she is buying, she doesn't seem to have bought any books before. I hope it's not one of my friends trying to cheer me up by boosting my sales. ;D Ah well. All quiet on the ebay front. Made a few more purchases today, some sensible, some not, must put a few more books on there. Sorry gang, I'm, just sort of talking to myself, been doing that all day.

If anyone looks at my buying history, they could perhaps be bemused that in amongst all the monsoon and boys clothing stuff, there is the odd railway book! It's because of those of us with geeky OHs.

;D I'm quite surprised that what you bid on isn't private. I've got one or two watchers now, my first little group of books ends tomorrow. How exciting. Although I'm still worried it's just my friends looking at them. ;D

;D Ok, I'll stop watching then....
No, I'm not really. Fingers crossed!

Have you managed a link yet Aspi? Just copy and paste wats on the browser bar when you are looking at the page with your books.

OK that's good Aspi but how can we see the books you are selling?
Do you want to put a list on here as well. You never know one of us maybe interested in buying.
If I was selling on Ebay I would put the articles on here as well.

Actually I've had a little think about this and concluded that on the whole I don't like selling things to friends - ie Tappers. People might be disappointed with what they get or something and then I would feel bad. So with a few exceptions, I don't want to mix business with pleasure, as it were, I just like being able to come on here and rattle on about what I am up to. But thanks for the interest.

well my first 99p sale has gone through and I got positive feedback. ;D I was really really worried, I kept looking at the book and thinking it really wasn't in a very good condition and worrying that maybe the buyer was expecting it to be in better condition, but she said she was very very pleased. So that is gratifying. A satisfied customer. ;D I was having a wander in Brighton today, I reckon that's where the money is in terms of selling stuff. In the antiques street market, they are selling rubbishy paperbacks for £2.75! I think that's unbelievably pricey. And all the collectables were a really high price. I looked at one of the more established s-h bookshops too. It's a wonder people buy from them when there are so many charity shops with books for sale. So maybe I need to join the Brighton antique wide boys rather than doing the internet. ;D

Thanks Joany. It's my second sale, aschtually, but my firstest antiquarianish one. Well what I mean is the first time I've sold a book that I bought to sell, if you see what I mean. ;D

Aspi you will probably find it cheaper to do Ebay. Stalls can sometimes cost upwards of £100.

It might be worth asking around to see how much they can make in a day, though. Although they might worry in case you are asking for tax purposes! ;D
Still, at the rate you are going, I really can't see you having to rush to pay taxon your profits just yet! ;D

Congratulations! I'm interested - anything to do with books! I have a 13 huge volume Oxford dictionary from before it was Oxford - ex-libris - quarter leather, run of about 5 feet. It looks lovely, provides insulation against the wall, and can actually be read - you know - huge entries about where the derivation came from, first uses in literature and everything. May have to sell it one day because each volume is a bit heavy to pick up now... But I'm still in love - I remember it from when i was just starting library work

Euww I've sold another one...for 99p...and another one...;D ;D Emailed about the stalls, £147 a quarter, a year's contract and a huge waiting list. So it's no wonder they ask a lot for the books there. Oh well, one way or another, I'll work out what works best for me. ;D I've put a few more books on, but goodness, it still takes me ages to put them on. I can see one would get faster at it though, but not much. Nooj, I have huge two-volume OUP dictionary, the one with derivations but where the type is so teeny you it comes with a magnifying glass to read it...but yep, I'm jealous of the leather bound ones.

I just knew you had it in you to become an entrepreneurial magnet! ;D
Wouldn't it be good if you could have a stall just for a trial run?
How about asking the stallholders if you can rent a stall from them for a week or two while they go on holiday, just to see if you like it? Have you every done boot fairs? We used to do loads of them, once I had got some of my belongings back from Ex. I rather enjoyed it, although good footwear and fingerless gloves and flasks of hot drinks and a nearby loo are a necessity!

I've sold plants at boot fairs, quite fun to do with a pal, but it's not really the place to sell books of any value, people are after cheap stuff - in fact I should start going round boot fairs looking for books.
Re the antiques market stall, I did wonder about the holiday thing but they have a very tight trade association and look after each other's stalls, including hols. Also you have to have public liability insurance to trade there. No, the stall thing isn't the answer, besides I'd find it exhausting, but I will find the best way to sell them eventually. ;D The good thing about the internet is I can do it when it suits me, but money-wise, not so good. Still, I'm getting a fine collection of books together. The trouble is, I want to read them all before I sell them. ;D

No no, I wasn't suggesting that you had a boot fair stall, just wondered if you had ever experienced the all-day fatigue of a stallholder's lot. Of course you have.
I reckon, once you had had a fewgood reviews and your sales stars go up in number, more people will trust you and buy from you.

Someone was remarking that sales of collectable books tend to be quite low during the summer months, so I'm not holding my breath.

One of my buyers hasn't left feedback. Does that mean my percentage rating goes down? I have emailed him to say did he receive the book and was he happy with it. He must have got it by now and if he hadn't I would have thought he would have emailed me.

Some people are just very slow, others are new and don't realise they have to. How many stars has he got next to his name? If not many, then maybe he is just iggerant. many peope seem to have a sort of followup email affixed to theor items once a sale has been made. It says that no feedback will be given to the buyer until the seller has received theirs.

I've already given him good feedback, for paying. He has a lot of sales/purchases, but 93 per cent feedback thingy. Oh well. The thing is, unless he leaves feedback, I won't know if he ever received the item, will I? Still, it was one of my 99p sales. I was only doing them to get my sales rating up, so that has rather backfired on me, perhaps. Oh well. I have been doing lots of book buying and not much selling. ;D I bought a lovely classic Fanny Craddock preserving book the other day, so anachronistic, but I don't think I'm going to be able to sell it now, it's full of good recipes for preserves. So it's another one that's gone on my bookshelves;D ;D ;D The books are mounting up here... ;D I'm beginning to think this whole ebay idea is really me just finding an excuse for book buying. ;D
