Did anyone see Coast with my friend Neil Oliver? Miranda went diving in the Cathedral Cave just off St Abbs, Happygirl's son has got the chance to go diving there this weekend.

Ah didn't watch that, Mav. Cherry, I saw part of that economy gastronomy thing and there they were, doing 'economy' cooking and buying asparagus! I love asparagus but it's only a few times a year, in season, that I buy it as a treat!(i keep trying to grow it and it keeps getting eaten by slugs before it has a chance to establish The trailer for the next week's programme appalled me - two guys who would throw out a chicken after they had just eaten a bit of the breast. I found that really shocking, so wasteful to take an animal's life and then waste it. Even the chef looked appalled at that. Sadly I missed the Nigel Slater programme. I have a book of his and find it really good, except he does love his butter, cream and sugar rather too much. Did anyone ever read his autobiography, 'Toast'? I'm not into reading celebrity stories but his story about his childhood is just so well written and poignant, I loved it. I've always liked him since reading that.

That's three or four meals gone in the bin. And I agree with you Aspi, if we kill it, we should eat it. Anyway, why not just buy breast fillets??

There wasn't any cream butter or sugar this time, perhaps he's a reformed character! I hadn't heard of him until I got talking to a male friend in Winchester, who said that NS had inspired him to cook. Last week was the first time I had ever come across him. Iwould LOVE to be able to use loads of butter and cream and sugar! I used to eat my porridge smothered in sugar and cream...now it's naked porridge.......
