Midsummer Murders? Did I miss one? I got very stiff from rock-moving so went and had a very long soak in the bath, then watched the last 'Hope Springs' on iplayer. I've really enjoyed it for a bit of light entertainment on a Sunday.

We like Hotel B and New Tricks and most cookery and NCIS and Misomer Murders - all good family watching stuff. Left to our own devices I also watch gardening and documentaries; OH watches anything to do with sport and Possum watches trashy US teenage stuff. Possum and OH also watch Torchwood and the Apprentice which I loathe. Dragon's Den is much better.
I'm a total pleb about art. I like Vermeer and Breughel and some Turner and Flemish landscapes but the rest leaves me cold especially the religious stuff, prima donnas like the Pre-Raphaelites and con artists like Dali and Picasso and I find Monet's endless water lilies and haystacks very boring. I really liked the Botticellis in the Uffizi but they made everything else look wooden.
Does anyone know when the Channel 4 series with Matthew Wilson is due to start?

Is it me?? Just watched advert for folks to send their gold to some place & get cash for it. In these hard times is that not maybe a red rag to the desperate who may be thinking of robbing houses, and make money - 'no questions asked'? Or am I being saft??

The trend is already there for burglary and theft to go up in recessions so you just have to be extyra careful about locking doors, windows and garden gates, not leaving ladders lying about and not leaving valuables in obvious places.
Aparently there's a new trend for gold selling parties where your goodies are valued and you accept or reject the cash offer. The hostess gets a percentage, just like a tupperware or naughty knickers party.

I used to have a lot of gold jewellery - I don't actually like it! I prefer silver anyway, so once ex and I had parted ways and I was broke I sold it. I used to send a photo of it to a good jeweller in London, who would say whether or not he wanted to see it. Then I would send it up to him and he would give me a price. If it was too low I would refuse and he would send it back.
I can't remember who he was, unfortunately - I have another necklace I would quite like to dispose of. I kept it for my daughter but she doesn't like it either!

Watching that thing with Goldie on BBC 2 - he's trying to compose a classical piece. Really interesting as he can't read or write music, so he's having quite a hard time communicating what he wants...

We watched that too - I made the mistake of saying that I knew what he meant about not being able to work out which notes are in a chord. R then spent about 20 minutes trying to explain to me how chords work Did you watch Maestro as well? I usually loathe reality show type things, but I thought that was really interesting.

Yes, I liked Maestro I had a similar discussion about chords with Mr. Flump. I settled the argument by pointing out that one can know what cake tastes like without necessarily recognising the individual ingredients <seriously,Ineedtostopitwiththecakeobsessionsmiley> ;D

I had to sit through it with Robert who was going mad with frustration. I gathered that he was not impressed with the concept, and I also gathered that if I hadn't been in the room with him then the language may have been slightly more colourful. He knows that unless you are Mozart, most good musicians need a good dozen years of training behind them before they can produce any decent music. Unless they are writing advert jingles.

Yes, but he does produce music - just not of that genre. I did think though, when they said he'd spent 4 months trying to communicate his ideas to the actual musicians, that it would have been easier just to use that time to teach him the basics of musical notation Mr. Flump commented that the whole thing was rather like a celebrity version of "Faking It", which I thought was a fair point.

I wotched GW by accident the other night, well mum had it on so I watched it. I am having to stay away from the beeb, as I'm afraid I really do find it dumbed down prattle. I was so hopeful about Toby, but I have to say I find he comes across as an annoying prat. 30 min slot is terrible. And it's just full of him saying things like "Well, what I'm going to do is put it in this hole..." I mean for god sake, we know you are planting a plant, do you really need to tell us that? How about something a little more useful like are you shoving any fertilizer down the hole, etc. etc? Aged P got so annoyed by the poor quality presenting he went off in a huff. Said they were patronising beep beep beeps and he missed having someone with a brain presenting like Geoff I know what he means! <Ididlikethebamboomanthoughsmiley>

Me too!!! I watched it on purpose though, 'Give it a go' I thought. So I armed myself with a cup of tea and my friday night choccie bar ( ;D) and......................................what rubbish. Carol needs to leave that show, she is the only credible person on it and its an infuriating waste of her talent and knowledge. I get so cross. You all know I am a fan of hers, her knowledge of prophagating has given me many, many plants and saved me an awful lot of money. Why is she on this show? Bring back Monty thats what I say. I guess thats what Nooj would say too I think of Nooj every time I get my Monty book out ;D And the man bag saga on the beeb

I watched half an hour of it, and although I had originally thought Toby would be good I found him extremely irritating, too. I found the whole thing irritating - the only person I find okay now is Alys, because her section is actually about sensible things to do with growing stuff. I'm afraid I find Toby just too lightweight. I watched the bit with him in the pond with waterlilies and I was getting distracted because I was beginning to worry that he might get sunburn. That's not really a good sign, is it? I just watched 'Man on a Wire' the rather strange little film about the tight-rope walker who crossed between the twin towers in NY. It initially seemed A Very Boring Programme but it became quite gripping - something about the whole idea of someone virtually dancing with death, quite extraordinary.

I'm watching that as well Amazing!! Sister's boyfriend is doing the Coast to Coast at the moment. She took him & his brother up to St Bees on Friday. Brother had go home after a day as he'd damaged the soles of his feet with too much unaccustomed walking. Boyfriend is carrying on by himself Jb

Did anyone watch 'who do you think you are' last night? It was Kim Catteral (Sex in the City). I have not watched it before and I quite enjoyed it. It was sad though. My parents are tracing the family tree ( they go on and on and on about it), boy was life hard for people.
