Seems more sensible to have a separate area for questions about Photobucket. I know some folks are having difficulty Uploading to it at present. Will add text in a bit.

My problem is that it's taking ages to upload, and then sometimes only uploads one when I have selected four. I did a bit of research about other sites, and some of them only allow you to upload four at a time.
It seems that it is set up more for sharing photos that have been filched from other sites, rather than uploading your own photos. Don't you have any problems with your uploads? DBH has suggested that maybe it is because I have installed Admuncher, and that the site is warring with it, but in its past incarnation it was brilliant, Admuncher speeded things up considerably. Maybe as more people install applications like that, they have tried to counteract it.

I have no trouble uploading a whole Album full. The Hodnet Hall ones went up in one go, all 130 of them. Took about 10 minutes.
To find the size of an image. Right Click on it to bring up a Menu which allows you to look at the Properties (It is the last one in the list). On the Properties View Size is about half way down.
I used Photoshop Elements to reduce the size of images before uploading.

My download speed is 6.76 mbps and upload speed 0.38mbps My pics are 9.97MB Well there is your answer. Your pictures are massive in terms of megabytes. Mine are around 100 kilobytes. That coupled with a very slow Upload speed is causing the trouble. Have you access to any Image manipulation software?

85774 bytes. Is that huge?

1 megabyte is 1000 bytes, work it out for yourself.

But you said that yours are around 100 kilobytes.

So your picture is 85.75 kilobytes. A reasonable size for sending to Photobucket.

That's what threw me. So I tackled DBH about a new computer again, he says that there is no RAM space left as a holding area for the photo storage because all of the space on my computer is taken up. My computer is a sixth as powerful as his, and his is already old. His is about a sixth of robert's. ;D And he can upload from our camera in seconds. It's not Admuncher. So maybe Piggin's computer is like mine and just too ancient as well, a newer one could cope with her photos. My old camera had bigger photos, and photobucket used to be fine with them. Our ancient computers just can't cope with the new software.

Your photos do seem very large though.
So what is going on, I can't think really. I styarted doing some research and it does seem that photobucket is more media based now, for sharing images taken from elsewhere, as we use birthday pics, for example. There are other sites for serious photographers but they usually cost.

I have finally uploaded my sister's wedding photos However I want to add titles to them. You used to be able to do it very easily but I can't find how to do it now . I'm going to have another look, but can anyone give me a quick answer please Found it! You'd think it was a simple question to ask in their help section - you'd be wrong Anyway, for future reference, you have to click on the 'thumbnail' photos to make it big, and then there's a space at the bottom to add a title. Just a bit more of a faff than before - which is, of course, an improvement

Maybe it's in the 'edit' part? It takes me ages to even log in. So I don't. Every time I want a photo for someone's birthday, the 'copy' thing won't work until I have tried it at least 6 times. I think it's my computer, but it's too slow for me to experiment and try to be more helpful.

Cross-posted there No, not in the edit bit. Can't even remember where I'd found it, I'd clicked so many buttons I've had trouble with copying images as well, though it was OK yesterday when I wanted one for Mo.

Click on the Image you wish to add a title. Below the enlarged Image which appears is a line which says Click to add a title. This is replaced by a box. Type in the title. Click on the blue tick to the right to add it to the Image. To get the information to post a picture from PB to a website, find the picture as a thumbnail. Below it are various options. The one for here, is the one labelled 'IMG'. Click on it and the bit below it turns blue (probably cold) Then Press CTRL and 'C' on your keyboard at the same time to Copy the image to your machine. Then use CTRL + V to place the information on the Website. To Edit a photo, again Click on the image. Then above the enlarged thumbnail find the word Edit and Click on it. This takes you to the Edit screen where there are lots of options.

Thanks Berghill I had managed to find it, but you put it much better . With the old site you didn't have to click on the image - the option to add a title was just 'there'. Might have another look at the edit screen to see what you can do, but I've usually made any necessary alterations to my photos on my computer before I post them.

Editing in Photobucket. Top right of the Thumbnail images is a Symbol, bit like a flower. Hover the mouse pointer (if you use a mouse that is, no idea about Tablets and Laptops) over it and a box appears with various options. Edit is the second one from the top. Right Click on it. Takes you to a Screen like so. Across the top are various Symbols, Resize is the 6 th one, looks like the letter 'X' Right click on it. Screen changes to this The numbers may be different for you. If you then position your mouse over the end of first number (in this case 3648) and move the line which appears to the left, holding the Mouse button down at the same time, the figures will turn white. (May take a little practice at first). When they are white type in 640 (0r what ever size you want your picture to be, 640 is the size I like) The right hand figures should then change to 480. Click on the word Apply (Blue box at the right hand side.) This will then change to SAVE Below that is a Box labelled Replace Original. Make sure that Box is EMPTY. Click on SAVE. It now takes you to the Saved image to add a title or to share it, or to go to the Library or Folder where you keep the picture. Hope that is clear.

A bitmap (or raster graphic) is a digital image composed of a matrix of dots. Cannot find anywhere on Photobucket which even mentions Bitmaps. JRo Can you post the exact message you get from Photobucket when it requests files in the Bitmap(BMP) file type?
|
|
|
Post by janerowena on Dec 7, 2014 20:22:24 GMT 1
No, it didn't request it, it just wouldn't accept the usual format from my computer. I put aspi's photo on my computer, as normal. I tried to upload it to photobucket, it wouldn't. I googled it, and a site said, try converting the photo to bitmap instead of the normal jpeg default, which I did, and it was fine.
Also, apparently and all of a sudden, I have filled 30% of my storage quota. Last time I looked, I had an unlimited amount of storage.

It would, Bitmap formula is huge. Every pixel of the photo is defined so there is a massive amount of information in the file.

Aspi's file must have been big. I don't know what she took the photo with. It was an email attachment.
