That volcano one looks quite deadly. I love Sour Grapes, it's my favourite penstemon.

That volcano one looks quite deadly. I love Sour Grapes, it's my favourite penstemon. I love it too. I have a photo of our other spectacular lilies which I'll post another time called "Blackout" - they are a very dark red and rather sumptuous. The orange is called Vulcano, not Volcano, I thought it odd when I bought them but maybe it's named after Vulcan.

They are beautiful. I always used to grow 'apple blossom', years ago, I can't think why I stopped.

Kindly spot the hosta still going strong and uneaten even though it's October in this photo - all thanks to the rogue chicken. God knows what I'll do this year. Mme Isaac Pereire

you have so many brill plants, Jro. <jealoussmiley> I like that combo of cosmos and gaura. But I especially like the leucanthemums - they are soooo over the top shaggy headed aren't they. ;D Is that last rose perfumed? Oooh, I have so much acquiring to do for my garden but I am actually very good at just getting a few things a year and then I really enjoy watching them develop. <saintlynonconsumeristicsmiley>
Lilylouise - the amaryllis look lovely on the table. What did you have for dessert? ;D

I walked round Mottisfont 3 times before I tracked down that rose, making sure that it had the strongest scent! When I read up on it, it did say that the scent was very strong. It's lovely, very blowsy. It's a lax grower which makes a small climber.

Mottisfont! I keep trying to persuade some pals that we should go there. When do you think it is at its very bestest for the roses Jro?

June, this year, because everything is so cold down there which is unusual for them and May is normaly ok. If you go on to their website in a couple of months they will tell you the dates on which it would be best to go. They do sell some David Austin roses there, but not their own, so it is best to nip along to Pococks's which is not far away if you want to buy one - they don't have all of them, obviously, but they do have a fantastic selection. Dahlia 'david howard'.

I gather you managed to get there at last, J-Ro - did you have a good time? Did you go all round the winter walk, or just look at the snowdrops? Tell all (but maybe not on this thread ... and maybe you already have, on a thread I haven't seen yet). OK, ignore the above bit - I've now found the links to your photos
