I often think, as in this case, that 'stuffed in a jam jar' looks as good as, or even better, than a fancy arrangement

Just before the rain picked all my dahlia flowers from the one plant that is still brimming with flowers. Literally stuffed into a jam jar as I have broken/ cannot locate the vase they would fit. I'll scout around for something so that I can make a nice arrangement with leaves and a few crocosmia etc. still I also like them as they are I did the same thing today! I am going to put them on DBH's desk tonight before I go to bed, it's his birthday tomorrow and when he gets up at 4.30am or whatever maybe it will cheer him up a bit, I thought.

Beautifu!! Aren't flowers amazing It did make me smile that there was a 'director'. As if the flowers were being told when and how to move ...... and "could all those orange poppies on the hillside please blossom at the same time"

That was so wonderful. I love the way the music and flowers are so well synchronised.

I did a flower count on 30th December when outside...quite surprised at what i found. Mind you we've only had a couple of ground frosts here. So here goes
2 roses in bud. Hellebore Niger out, plus lots of buds on the orientalis. H. Feotidus(?) well out too. Polyanthus Sarcococca Ivy, almost out. Erysimum, one flower just hanging on. Ditto a stem of schysostylis & an alchillea. Alpine strawberry! Violas, lots. Bergenia, Erigeron karvenskianus, just. Cyclamen hederofolium, lots.
Lots of red berries on the cotoneaster. The varigated evergreens good too plus the stems of the cornus plants.
So quite a surprise that so many things are out. Bulbs well up in places too. J.

Garden? What's that? I can see we have lots of alpines in the beds in front of my kitchen windows - through the first rain we have had for a very long time. From the sitting room window, I can see we have lavender against the window, and from the dining room, all sorts of stuff including a chrysanthemum that someone forgot to tell it is winter. When I fetch the coal in, the autumn-flowering camellia is still in flower.

Spotted an annual daisy plant, name gone, also still flowering yesterday. It is growing in a soil pocket bed next to the house wall, SSW facing, so pretty protected. J.

I feel like today I lost a penny and found a pound. I noticed yesterday that the hyacinths I bought for mum were going over and I thought, I'll take them home today and replant them outdoors. Only one of the staff had seen that they were finished and presumably threw them out. But then on freecycle, a lady was advertising cyclamens in a pot to go out. So I went round and she had this huge bowl of cyclamens that had gone over. Great, so I can plant them and I get a nice bulb pot, too. So funny old day on the plant front.

I am feeling very guilty - I found a carrier bag full of nerines that I moved, intending to put them elsewhere. I can't even remember where I wanted to move them to!
