Your poor friend Aspi! What a horrible thing to happen.

I am mindful there was a chap on the tv saying it doesn’t matter how bright you are, a scammer just has to catch you in a distracted mood and they can pounce. My friend was in the middle of doing some work when she got this email, she just wanted to deal with it and get back to work so just didn’t think about it properly. She only realised something was wrong when she got a further (hacked) email asking for more money in some sort of other mode.

I had one of those buy Amazon vouchers for a friend Emails some time back. I knew it was a fraud straight away as the supposed 'friend' never called me by the name that the Emailer used. Having said that it would have been terribly easy to be caught out by it. It was very plausible. They rely on the good nature of people, willing to help a friend. I ain't got any good nature so there!

Just had another one of those "Buy some Amazon vouchers for me" type emails. From someone called Tony Frost. Not a name of anyone we know or have ever known.

I told my friend who got scammed what you had said about how easy it was for a good-natured person to be taken in and I think it cheered her up a little bit.

We are getting calls from 0204 587 0487 which is apparently (I just googled it) a scam number used for phishing - so if you see that number come up on your phone, block it or just don't answer.
As we don't answer the landline anyway (unless it's my Mum) we just keep getting annoying noises on our voicemail, hoping the scammers will eventually work out that our number is never answered and stop bothering.

The numbers are dialled automatically and so they will never get fed up. The scammers only answer when you answer.

Unless it's a number I recognise, I never speak when picking up my landline.....it usually cuts off. Same for mobile.

We've had this sort of call before and they've always given up after a few weeks of us not answering, so presumably the auto-dialling is set to do it a certain number of times before moving on? I don't know. We've not had any phonecalls at all for years (other than from family), as no-one has our number, so I assume the list the scammers is using is auto-generated as well as auto-dialled.

I had the first spam call on my mobile yesterday. It was a London number and a chap with a very strong Asian accent. The only words I could make out were "mobile phone". As my mobile provider always sends me an email or sms, I knew it wasn't them. I cut him off and checked out the number. It is a new one and nnly started operating this month, but is definitely a scam. So if you have a call from 020 3285 6427, block it.

While sitting in the waiting area for DBH after his session, an elderly lady was telling her companion that she had had a phone call saying her mony had got to be moved, fortunately she realised it was not her bank, and put the phone down.

It's awful to think of people preying on the elderly like that.

Hmm I think I might have just had a scam phone call. man with very thick Indian accent ringing from British Gas about my boiler service contract. He had my name and postcode and said they were updating their contracts. The phone came up with a Worcester number, so seemed okay. Then he asked me stuff like what was the make of boiler and how old was it and I thought that was odd as they must have all that info. He asked me if I owned the house and I said yes, although I think that's an odd question.
The first real red flag was that he said the service contract was going to be a reduced price this year. The chances of British Gas reducing their service contract prices seems very unlikely so I started getting suspicious. He then asked for my bank sort code for my direct debit. I said I was giving out any bank info on the phone and that British Gas has plenty of other ways of getting hold of me. He kept sort of insisting and pointed out that giving out my sort code isn’t the same as bank details, which is sort of true. I was saying well I am not giving you any bank details on the phone, you could be anybody, He tried a few more times and then out the phone down.
Also realised afterwards that my contract renews every autumn not spring, These sort of things are very disconcerting. Unfortunately my home phone doesn’t store numbers so I can’t find out more or report the number.

Dial 1471 and it should tell you the number who last called you. You should still be able to get it providing no-one else has called you since. I'm assuming that it was on your landline here, not mobile.

The police scam seems to be going round again, one of my Mum's friends had a call from someone who said he was a policeman.
I don't think she knew about the scam but she obviously thought there was something suspicious about the call, so she dialled 999 and some real policemen came round and told her the person who called her had given her false information, and that she should let her bank know about it.

Sounds daft I use my landline so rarely I had forgotten that! looked up the number and indeed it's a scam, have reported it in one of the scam sites thanks Miss P.

If anyone is or was in touch with Margi from the BBC gardening forum, please take care, it looks as though her email has been hacked.
I just found two emails in my spam folder, one of which I nearly opened, because the subject was "Margi M....... - sad news" (with her real name), but just in time I noticed that there was another which had a subject about Margi sending me photos, but which came from a completely different email address.

Possibly the scam where you are asked if you shop at Amazon and wanting you to buy a gift card for them.
