Not sure if this is a scam or not Email from Amazon with a message that we have been selected to enter a competition to win free shopping. Have forwarded it to Amazon and waiting for a response from them.

I've had one of those in France. I ignored it. I get the impression that Amazon are upping their profile and ads after loads of negative press re the way they treat their staff and the piteable amount of tax they pay.

I had one this morning from DPD perhaps! I report it a phishing as it was only addressed to my email I did not think it was genuine.

Today's version of email scam, from "NHS Wales" I did not bother to read beyond, so no idea what it was attempting, reported as a phishing scam.

I had a DPD one too. Apparently it takes you to a website asking for your details and credit card number. As it didn’t go into my junk I did have to study it carefully, it looks quite real but then I read again this is going around.

Does anyone know if there is a postal scam going round asking people to donate money for nurses? (At least, I'm sure there is, but one that's not obviously a scam)? My Mum got a letter purporting to be from the hospital asking for donations for nurses. She threw away a similar but obvious scam one earlier in the year, but this one is much more convincing, with lots of hospital details, doctors' names etc. She was going to talk to her neighbours about it and also, as she happened to be ringing the hospital to confirm an appointment, ask the receptionist there if they knew anything about it, but she was inclining to think it was genuine. I'm a bit concerned about it, tbh - I know most scams are relatively easy to spot, but it wouldn't be difficult for scammers to get hold of hospital details and fake some headed notepaper.

I doubt very much that a hospital would be asking for money for nurses Juliet. I would definitely treat it as a scam.

As it didn’t go into my junk I did have to study it carefully, it looks quite real but then I read again this is going around. I find that they usually have strange email addresses, but they can look very genuine, it is often down to how the email is worded, is it addressed to you as a person or to your email I never do more than view the email. Some just have a link which I wouldn't ever open have become much too wary. Juliet I would be very wary, of that letter, it is easier than you would think to create very good copies of official letterheads.

I would treat the hospital one as a scam too. It seems odd to ask for money 'for nurses or doctors'. Normally hospitals fundraise for specific things, don’t they, like a new unit or a new machine that costs thousands. The only exception could be if it is for some sort of facility or extra service for staff or similar to be funded but that seems very unlikely. Glad your Mum is going to ask the receptionist.
I think the problem with the courier one is at the moment like many people I have quite a few deliveries coming in, some of which could be delivered by DPD or whatever it’s called. So getting an email saying they had missed you wouldn’t be that odd, although at the moment all couriers have got into the habit of just leaving things on the doorstep. I think though that if I got as far as filling in their form, I would stop and think if it asked for credit card details. We all know not to do that bit I think.

I was trying to explain to Mum how easy it would be to fake headed notepaper etc, and to get hold of real hospital info, but Mum thought if it were a scam everyone in her street would have got one of the letters and not everyone did, so she thought maybe it was just people who were patients of that specific hospital. I said if she wanted to donate to a nursing charity safely I could do it for her online, and she said "how do you know the one you're doing online is genuine?" - I was thinking via the NGS or a charity like that, or directly to a charity like Marie Curie, but I couldn't manage to get Mum to understand. I hope the hospital receptionist will convince her not to send money. I don't think she'd send bank details, it would be a cheque, but even so

Juliet the NHS is not allowed to fundraise for any staff costs so it must be a scam. With todays technology it is easy enough to replicate hospital headed paper.

todays Scam attempt was the DHL delivery one where they try to get you bank details to pay for a missed delivery. Also had some from Amazon claiming that they have not been able to ship an order. Check your orders on the website before responding to that one.

I've been getting quite a few scam phone calls recently....some as annoyingly early at 8am!! Luckily my phone displays the number calling, some of which says international/witheld, so when I pick the phone up I don't say anything & then they hang up

We have had several attempts to get us to believe that our Amazon prime account (which we do not have) has a problem with a payment. recorded voice message, do not even bother listening to it beyond finding out what the call is..

Our phone ‘tells’ us if it’s international so pick up, say nothing, hear nothing 99% time as computer generated, so put phone back down.

The number which came up was a British one, actually either Whitehaven or Gosport. Not that it means anythingas they can put any number they choose on the report.

I do often google the number & you can see on the 'who called me from this number' whether other people have reported as a scam.

On a recent scam the numbers coming up were just UK mobile numbers but a different one every time. I rarely answer my landline, I let it go to answerphone and then pick it up once it starts recording if I then recognise who it is.

There is yet another scam going around saying you are selected for a vaccine due to your family history/genetics. You click through, give info and eventually click and give credit card info. Obviously this is a scam but a friend got it and she thought it was real, it is very convincing. If it doesn’t have your NHS number it’s not from them, fortunately I think we are all savvy on here but just a heads up. It is going to people who use outlook express for their emails in particular.

Bad Email today. It claimed to have accessed our computer and watched me looking at Porn sites through our Web camera. Pay up or have the info sent to all our contacts. bit of a problem. a. Never actually been on a Porn website (only gardening porn for me)b. We do not have a Web camera. c. As you know I have no access to money in any case. Reported to Action Fraud, but doubt if they will do anything. We have changed all our Password to be on the safe side and run various Anti-virus programs and all come back clear. Could be very frightening to some people who do fit the description given by the hacker.

Still a bit concerned. Not sure if they have been able to hack into our machine as much as they claimed without us noticing. At least the Email account where it appeared is family only so no contact list in it for anyone who might be bothered by strange email from me.
