Has anyone upgraded to Windows 10 yet? I thought it might be useful to have a discussion thread on the pros and cons. I haven't taken the plunge yet, I'm still on Windows 7 which I get on with, but wondered if anyone had been intrepid enough to give it a go.

I have windows 8 tried 8.1 and changed back, very wary of trying 10 till I hear what others have to say.

Dear H - who earned his living at all this, says no - we are staying just as we are.

I deliberately found a computer with 7 - so no thank you! I have a vague recollection of Robert saying he would, I shall ask him.

I think I'll wait until later before I commit to an upgrade. Hopefully any initial problems will be sorted by the time I do.

I deliberately found a computer with 7 - so no thank you! Me too. I would especially want to know what the photo editing is like, as I'm not even happy with the Windows 7 one compared to Vista

The laptop I bought recently has Windows 8 but I have been told I can upgrade to 10 free of charge as long as I do it by the end of the year. I keep getting pop ups to remind me but I am leaving it as long as possible so they can de-bug it first.

I think that's why DBH is hanging on.

I have It has had its problems. So far the negatives are several of my original software packages no longer worked. Encountered issues with it wanting to do things I didn't want it to do, there are a lot of bits you need to find and turn off, for example it will automatically set itself to install upgrades and at the same time share your bandwidth to upgrade other computers through your connection, you can disable this but need to know where to look. I am still finding my way round, I don't like how technical you need to be to find everything, and I worked in IT, albeit years ago and stuff changes quite quickly these days. It doesn't have drivers for some older hardware platforms, some older video cards are not supported, but for most people they wouldn't know until they tried to upgrade. I still remember the night that Proboards 'upgraded' TAPS to v5, to start with it was a nightmare panic to try and return it to a degree of friendliness that we are all used to. <shudderhopetheyneverdoitagain> Windows 10 is almost as scary. I will try to help any adventurous tappers who want to visit the dark side

I think I may hang on to my Windows 7 for the time being as I don't want to lose any of my existing programs, but I may upgrade J's laptop as that is on Windows 8.1 and I don't think there are that many differences between the two, certainly not as many as with W7 anyway.

I am not sure at the moment on the plus points. I turned off so many of the new 'features', including Cortana, the voice driven 'PC personal assistant', I think it would annoy me. There are more 'gaming features', which I don't use, and the option to 'synchronise your devices' something else I don't need. You may wonder why I have upgraded? So do I No doubt in time Microsoft will stop producing upgrades for the previous Windows versions, and that will introduce security risks, so I may as well try to get used to this.
