Odd that it's a CD / DVD as almost no one has players these days.
I think the general rule of "if you didn't ask for it you probably don't want it" definitely applies here though.
I agree with Juliet it's probably dodgy. Someone you know would address it personally and indicate the contents, surely?

Just tried live chat with police to ask for advice and they said to take the CD to local police station who will be able to play it - had to say I couldn't do that because a) we don't have a local police station, and b) I'm shielding and not leaving the house, so the alternative is apparently to contact 101. I asked if I can report via email/online instead as I don't use the phone because of my brain fog, and live chat person said she believes not (surely she should know?) - so I guess R will be ringing 101 later, unless I can find email address for police station in nearest big town. Not very helpful chat really, but the fact that police do want us to report it suggests they think it is a scam too.

I found an online contact form for county police so have been in touch with them and they're going to send an officer to collect it (they didn't know when, so I presume when one happens to be in the area anyway). Odd that it's a CD / DVD as almost no one has players these days. I think the general rule of "if you didn't ask for it you probably don't want it" definitely applies here though. I agree with Juliet it's probably dodgy. Someone you know would address it personally and indicate the contents, surely? That reminds me of the last time we had an unusual package through the door and called the police ... I don't think I've ever mentioned that here? Will head over to the things that made me laugh thread and do so ...

Often feel a bit left out of things as we get so few Sam messages either as Emails or Phone calls. Begin to wonder if we are not considered worth scamming.

Not as left out of it as we thought. Had the Amazon one this morning. Forwarded it to Amazon. Interesting point about the poor spelling and grammar in the Email scams. It is deliberate as it weeds out the intelligent who realise it is wrong and leaves the more gullible for the scammers.

Their strange email addresses get me! How some of them still end up in my inbox while companies I have had emails from for years end up in the junk mail is beyond me.

I had a woman, who had my name, ring up to say it was time to renew my guarantee on my washing machine, I told her I didn’t have a guarantee and she put the phone down. I wonder if I had said oh yes, she would then have asked for my bank details I suppose. A bit worrying she had my name.

I get really fed up with the number of calls from people saying they were following up my claim for the accident I had. They are currently the only calls I ever receive.

I am with O2 and also got the same text a couple of weeks ago. I just went online using my normal app to check there was really no problem and then deleted it. It is annoying how the scammers keep trying.

I show them all to Moomin, and also genuine ones from the bank etc. and ask her what I should do. She's getting really good at spotting the scams.

Look out for Green Homes Grant Scheme scams too, these are actually only available in England, but scammers have been using this to scam people in other parts of the UK. I am signed up to the Which? Scam Alert Service, which is free and very informative with news on the latest scams and what to do if you lose money to fraudsters.

What a good idea Miss P, I always think of Which as being good but needing to buy what ever their surveys are, nice to know they offer that as a free service. Will be signing up for it I guess.

Beware of this one purporting to be from DHL asking for confirmation of a package to be delivered. the attachment contains Malware or the information asked for can be used to gain access to personal details. Check with anyone who is supposed to be sending you something rather than using this Email.

Just for a change, today's scam email. DPD unable to deliver a package, addressed to me as an email address and of course sender's email is obviously not dpd. At this time of year plenty of parcels due, but the only one due for delivery today happens to be in Germany!

I got one which fortunately went in my junk mail purporting to be from DHL saying that they had tried to deliver a parcel twice and I had to pay to have it delivered a third time, not much, something like £3. But it’s a scam, and then not only do they get £3 but your bank details too. With a lot of parcels coming in at the moment I have lost track of them a bit so it would be perfectly feasible for one not to be delivered and me not to have noticed.

I keep getting a call on my mobile, which goes to my answerphone as I don’t answer it or haven’t a signal, and it is an American/Asian voice that just says 'stay safe, stay at home'. I think it is a sales/scam call but they put that on to make it sound official. The call comes from different UK mobile numbers each time, so can’t block.
